Early-stage
He was the son of William H. Gates Sr (1925–2020) and Mary Maxwell Gates (1929–1994). His father had the “II” suffix, so he is known as William Gates III or “Trey” (i.e., three) because he is the fourth of his name in his family.
When Gates was seven years old, his family stayed in the Sand Point area of Seattle, damaged by a rare tornado.

Four students collected money for the establishment of the Lakeside Programmers Club. They offered to find bugs in CCC software in exchange for extra computer time at the end of the ban.
